beginning of summer natural dyeing
organic cotton gauze & hemp/cotton jersey scarves naturally dyed with avocado & black walnut.
A few of June's natural dyeing projects and experiments. The Godetia flowers were a gift on my birthday. They lasted much longer than I ever thought they would. I kept trimming their stems and adding fresh water and they seemed to get a new life each time. When it was finally time to let them go, I decided to try bundling them with some cotton taping and hemp. The results were so lovely. I restrung my favorite necklace that I originally made many years ago using the beautiful antique monk pendant that my mother brought me from Thailand. It seemed fitting to use the cotton taping which was dyed from the flowers she gave me.
The naturally dyed scarves are available in my shop. The dusty, peachy, pink scarves were dyed with avocado seeds and skins. The taupe grey scarves were dyed with powder ground from the hulls of black walnuts. They're printed with two of my new patterns in an antique metallic gold.
